Q: What benefits does wrestling have outside of fitness?
A: Wrestling has always been known as a physically demanding sport. What most people don't realize is that wrestling takes intellect in order to succeed. Strategy is vital to success, as is a level mind. Film review, sports psychology sessions, visualization activities, and motivation are all behind-the-scenes activities that help a wrestler, or any athlete for that matter, progress into a world-class competitor.​

These key components serve a wrestler well in the real world. Wrestlers are taught discipline and time management, healthy living, dedication, perseverance, and commitment, all things that a company looks for when hiring. Needless to say, wrestlers have healthy minds to go with healthy bodies.

Actually, besides showing off a wrestler's physique, there are reasons for wearing the one piece lycra/spandex/mesh uniforms:

1-Safety: The key is to limit the possibility of getting injured during a match. Singlets that are form-fitting do not provide areas for an arm or hand to get caught up and injured.

2-Functionality: The less one wears, the less that inhibits, which usually leads to increased speed a velocity, something wrestlers are always needing.
​
3-Rules and Regulations: One of the main reasons wrestlers wear singlets is actually a benefit during competition. In order to pin, or be pinned, both shoulder blades need to touch the mat at the same time. If the referee is unable to see the shoulder blades due to loose clothing, he/she is more like to call a quick pin.

4-Tradition: For years, wrestlers have been wearing this type of uniform. While designs and performance material have changed, the concept has essentially remained the same.
